Millstream Home has it handwoven by Amish makers in Pennsylvania from seagrass rope, willow and reed, with full-grain leather handles and solid brass hardware. The plate at the front is a custom MA VIE brass nameplate, made for the shop. Each basket comes out slightly different, which is what handwork does.

Jake Stoltzfus was raised Amish until he was sixteen. Janelle was the youngest of eight in a family with Amish heritage, and spent twelve years at home with their five children before any of this started.

She began driving the backroads around Lancaster County looking for people who still made things the old way, and Millstream Home came out of it. The work is organized by trade rather than by name: leatherworkers in an off-grid shop, weavers, seamstresses, a broom-making family sixty years in, a candle maker who dips each taper twenty-five times. Lancaster County in Pennsylvania, Holmes County in Ohio.

Several pieces started as objects belonging to Janelle's mother, Naomi. A horsehair dust brush. A basket she used for sixty years.
