The maker

Michael Michaud

Michael Michaud casts from actual plants. A leaf or a flower goes into the mold in place of the wax model, burns away in the heat, and leaves its own impression in the bronze.

He trained at the School for American Craftsmen and started the line in New York in 1991, working between the flower district and a house in the Connecticut countryside. The patinas go on by hand afterward.

His work is held by the Victoria and Albert and by the Art Institute of Chicago, which is unusual for something you put on a dinner table.
